Distribution Delivery States

Updated over a year ago

A "delivery state" typically refers to the current status of a message delivery attempt. When you set up distribution on Rival Platform, the message delivery to the recipient's device is attempted via Twilio. The delivery state provides information about whether the delivery attempt was successful or not, and if not, it may indicate the reason for the failure.

The delivery export taken from the distribution tab, provides this information in ‘delivery state’ column. Below are the different states.

Sending: Twilio is in the process of sending the message. This status is usually only present for a very short time.

Queued: Twilio has received your request to create the message. All new messages sent from a specific Twilio phone number are created with a status of queued.

Delivered: Twilio has received confirmation of message delivery from the carrier and the message has been successfully delivered to the recipient's device.

DeliveringFailed: The message delivery failed for some reason, such as an invalid phone number or network issues.

DeliveryUnconfirmed: This indicates that Twilio has not received an update from the carrier on the status of the delivery for 72 hours.

Canceled: When the system determines that the recipient is not eligible to receive the SMS, the delivery state goes from ‘Queued’ to ‘Canceled’.

The delivery export also provides insights into why a message has entered a "canceled" state through the "Delivery state reason" column. Here are the reasons

  • ParticipantInvited - The message delivery was canceled because the participant was already invited.

  • InviteParticipantInProgress - The message delivery was canceled because an invitation to participate was already in progress. It is possible that one of the previous invite went into ‘DeliveryUnconfirmed’ state.

  • ParticipantCompleted - The participant has already completed the intended action associated with the message (applies to Reminders only)

  • ParticipantDisqualified - The recipient is deemed ineligible for this activity (applies to Reminders only)

  • ParticipantUnsubscribed -The intended recipient has opted out or unsubscribed from receiving further communications.
