How to target all subscribed members for invitation

When creating an invitation, you decide which participants receive the chat. Rival gives you several targeting options and two locale-related controls that determine who gets the invitation and in what language.

Engagement Locale

Before selecting your target audience, you must set the Engagement Locale for the invitation. The Engagement Locale controls two things: it determines which locale version of the chat the participant receives, and it applies the locale-specific branding to the invitation email and the chat experience itself.

  • Single-locale chats: The Engagement Locale is prefilled automatically with the chat's locale. No action is needed.

  • Multi-lingual chats: Select a locale from the dropdown, which lists all locales configured on the chat. The Target field only becomes selectable after you choose an Engagement Locale.

If you need to send the same chat in multiple languages, create a separate invitation for each locale.

Target Options

Once the Engagement Locale is set, click the Target dropdown to choose your audience:

  • All participants - Sends the invitation to all subscribed members in your community. This is the simplest option when you want maximum reach.

  • Filtered list - Target a subset of participants based on profile attributes. For example, you can filter by location, age group, or any custom profile attribute to reach a specific segment.

  • Bulk list of participant IDs - Upload or paste a specific list of participant IDs to target exact individuals.

Preferred Locale Toggle

Inside the Target dropdown, there is a toggle: "Only target members with the same preferred locale as the chat locale".

  • When enabled (blue): The invitation only targets participants whose PreferredLocale profile attribute matches the selected Engagement Locale. This is useful for multi-lingual chats where you want to automatically match participants to the right language version based on their stored preference.

  • When disabled: The invitation targets participants based solely on your chosen audience filter (all, filtered, or bulk list), regardless of their PreferredLocale value.

For example, if you create an invitation with Engagement Locale set to French and enable the Preferred Locale toggle, only participants whose PreferredLocale is French will receive the invitation, even if your target is set to "All participants."
