How to Use Image Watermarking

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Image watermarking helps you protect sensitive study materials by adding participant-specific text (such as email, phone number, or participant ID) directly onto images shown in a chat. This makes each image unique and traceable, reducing the risk of unauthorized sharing.

When to Use Watermarking

Use watermarking whenever you’re showing confidential visuals, such as:

  • Ads, product designs, or packaging concepts

  • Early-stage creative (storyboards, characters, UI screens)

  • Casting options and talent images

  • Game or product features in development

  • Any material you don’t want shared publicly

What the Watermark Shows

The platform automatically selects the best identifier for each participant:

  • Community members: Email or phone number based on their recontact method

  • Non-members: Email or phone number if available

  • If no contact info exists: Participant ID

The watermark appears multiple times across the image in a diagonal pattern.

Where Watermarking Can Be Used

You can enable watermarking on:

  • Image Cards

  • Single Choice Cards with images

  • Multiple Choice Cards with images

The toggle works the same way across all of these card types.

How to Enable Watermarking

1. Open your chat

Navigate to the chat where you want to use image watermarking.

2. Select a card that contains an image

This can be:

  • An Image Card

  • A Single Choice question with images

  • A Multiple Choice question with images

3. Turn on “Enable watermarking”

In the card settings, switch the toggle on to activate watermarking for that card’s image(s).

4. Preview the watermark

When you preview the watermark, the system shows a sample participant ID so you can see how the overlay will look on your image.
If you want to preview how the watermark appears with different information, you can update the participant’s profile details and refresh the preview.

5. Save your changes

Once saved, watermarking will apply automatically when participants view the card.
