Overview
Rival Discussions is a paid add-on that extends Rival with advanced qualitative research activities powered by our partner, Qualzy. It allows researchers to combine Rival’s conversational research experience with a broader set of asynchronous qual tools, while keeping the participant journey connected across both platforms.
With Rival Discussions, researchers can launch participants from a Rival chat into Qualzy-powered qual activities such as discussion boards, diary studies, media uploads, card sorts, forms, pin tasks, and mood boards, then continue the broader study flow as needed.
When to use Rival Discussions
Rival is strong for conversational and quantitative research workflows. Rival Discussions expands that toolkit by adding deeper peer-to-peer and asynchronous qualitative research methods without requiring customers to source and manage a separate qual vendor relationship themselves.
This gives customers a more complete way to explore not only what participants think, but how ideas evolve through reflection, uploads, journaling, and interaction with others. This is especially valuable when a project needs richer context, more exploratory research, or community-style engagement that goes beyond standard survey or chat flows.

Security and compliance
Qualzy meets strong security and compliance standards, including ISO 27001 certification, and supports HIPAA requirements. It also aligns with global frameworks such as GDPR, CCPA, COPPA, and the Australian Privacy Act. Qualzy has been reviewed against Rival’s security requirements, helping ensure your research is conducted on a secure and trusted platform.

Rival Discussions is a connected experience, not a fully unified one. Today:
qual activity creation and management happen in Qualzy
participant moderation and reporting for those qual activities happen in Qualzy
researchers may need separate logins for Rival and Qualzy
unified reporting across Rival and Qualzy is not currently available
